“The greatest mistakes become the biggest learning!”
There are SOOO many things that influence a website’s rank including page wording, metadata, links, quality content and alternative text tags — just to name a handful.
But what happens when everything goes Pear-Shaped with Google?
And it does…
We have seen some of the worlds most successfully-ranked websites DROP, almost overnight, as a result of the latest Google Update. AND, we have come across our fair share of hard-to-rank websites of our own. We have watched the mistakes made by the “SEO Gurus”, and, admittedly, we have made many ourselves! AND, we have learned a LOT!
SEO is a game of trial and error! No-One can guaranty it — But We Still Have RESEARCH!
While there are several factors that we can influence to help BOOST a website’s rank in Google, there are just as many that we have not control over. Things like competitiveness of your industry, the lingo used by your potential customers, how popular your industry is and the resources your competitors are putting towards their SEO strategy are all things we need to be aware of so that we can best counter-act them. Knowing what we can and cannot influence is vital so that we can easily customers an SEO Strategy to suit each and every client.
Over the past decade, we have learnt, and continue to learn…
— What SEO techniques works
— What SEO ‘tricks’ doesn’t
— What helps boost a site’s rank
— What damages a site’s rank
— Any site-specific settings that Google requires for “Permission” to index (rank) a website
— Google Map Listing settings & the influence of Google Map Reviews (including the negative ones)
— Copyright image rules and how to avoid being blocked by Google
— Spamming and keyword density — How much is too much?
— Quality Content / Wording to Image ratios and Readability
— Onsite Links
— Offsite Links
— The quality of online directory websites and their influence on a website — the good — the bad — the ugly
— and a whole bunch of other, valuable, SEO lessons learnt as Google constantly changes what they look for, what factors influence ranking more than others and how they “choose” who appears at the TOP.
We use tools like Google’s Keyword Planner Tool to help us identify how many people are typing in what in relation to your business. There is no point spending time and money on trying to rank for search phrases that 2 people a month type in when you have other phrases attracting 100+ searches per month. This tool is also, very handy, for determining how competitive a particular search phrase is based on Google’s Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising statistics.
The biggest thing we have learnt is that nothing beats Quality-Content. Google is super switched-on to websites that have Quality, non-spammy wording, a good balance of words to images, embedded videos (if possible) and links to and from each page. We conduct regular in-house training to ensure our Techs are Up-To-Speed with the latest Google-News. We also use our own reporting tools to monitor our SEO Client’s websites and how they are performing month to month.
